Safety

Keeping students and staff safe is a top priority of Lake Washington School District. One of our strategic goals is to "provide safe and innovative learning environments."

For the safety of both students and adults, all exterior doors at Peter Kirk Elementary will remain locked during school hours.

Visitors and volunteers must ring the Entry Control System video unit at the front, main door (set of doors to left of the flag pole) to request permission to enter. All visitors will be asked their name and purpose for the visit and must be prepared to show picture ID.

Once in the door, visitors must sign in at the front office and wear a visitor badge while on campus. Upon leaving campus, visitors must again visit the office to sign out.

Please help us maintain a safe environment for our students and staff, and to be prepared in the unlikely event of an emergency.

To learn more about the safety strategy for the district, please visit LWSD Safety.

School Closures and Late Starts

When there is inclement weather, you can learn about school closures or late start by 5:30 a.m.:

  • Go to www.lwsd.org. If school is closed or starting late, you will see a pop-up alert box.
  • Go to www.flashalert.net, which lists schools all over the Puget Sound area. You can also sign up to receive text alerts or emails from this service.
  • Call 425-936-1200 to listen to a recorded message. (After 7 a.m., you may talk to a district receptionist).
  • Tune in to local radio and television stations.
